Old rubber cable, a fuse board with rewireable fuses, scorch marks — the warning signs that your Liverpool home may need rewiring.
The warning signs
Rewireable fuse wire instead of breakers, black or rubber-sheathed cable, round-pin sockets, and a fuse board mounted on a wooden back board are all signs of an installation that predates modern standards.
Also watch for breakers that trip repeatedly, warm or discoloured sockets, flickering lights, a burning smell near accessories, and too few sockets so extension leads are everywhere.
Do you always need a full rewire?
No. Plenty of Liverpool homes only need a consumer unit upgrade, better earthing and bonding, and a handful of circuits replaced. An electrical installation condition report (EICR) tells you exactly where you stand before you spend money.
What to do next
If you recognise two or more of the signs above, get the installation tested. Call Paul on 07872 001648 and we will tell you honestly whether a rewire is needed or whether smaller works will do the job.
